The Nepal Family Tour Package is a private 10-day holiday designed for families who want to experience the best of Nepal together, without the long treks, tight schedules or crowded group buses. It combines the ancient temples and living culture of the Kathmandu Valley, the Himalayan sunrise views of Nagarkot, the wildlife of Chitwan National Park and the calm lakeside beauty of Pokhara into one easy, well-paced journey. Every day mixes discovery with downtime, so children stay curious and parents and grandparents return home rested rather than exhausted.
Your adventure begins in Kathmandu, a city where history is part of everyday life. Children can climb the steps of Swayambhunath to meet its famous monkeys, spin rows of prayer wheels at Boudhanath Stupa and peek into the courtyard where Nepal's living goddess, the Kumari, resides. In Bhaktapur, the whole family can sit at a potter's wheel and shape their own clay pot, then taste juju dhau, the creamy local yogurt served in clay bowls. These hands-on moments turn sightseeing into real memories, and our guides share stories and legends in a way young travellers enjoy.
From the valley, the journey climbs to Nagarkot, a peaceful hill station at about 2,175 m, where a clear morning reveals a long line of snow-capped peaks stretching across the horizon. On the way to the lowlands, the Manakamana cable car lifts you high above the river valley, a ride most children talk about long after the trip. In Chitwan National Park, the pace changes again: you glide down the Rapti River in a dugout canoe, visit baby elephants at the breeding centre and head into the jungle by jeep to look for one-horned rhinos, deer, crocodiles and colourful birds. Evenings bring Tharu cultural dances and quiet nights surrounded by the sounds of the forest.
The final chapter unfolds in Pokhara, Nepal's favourite lakeside town. Here your family can row across Phewa Lake to an island temple, watch water vanish underground at Davis Falls, explore the cave at Gupteshwor Mahadev and learn about the world's highest mountains at the International Mountain Museum. Older children and adults can add a tandem paragliding flight or zipline, while others relax by the lake or browse lakeside cafés. A short scenic flight then returns you to Kathmandu for a farewell dinner with live music and dance.
What makes this package right for families is the care built into every detail. You travel only with your own family in a private vehicle with an experienced driver and a guide who understands children's needs. Driving days are broken with regular stops, child seats are available on request, and hotels are chosen for clean, safe and comfortable rooms, with family or interconnecting rooms wherever possible. The route stays at low altitude, meals include familiar options alongside Nepali dishes, and our Kathmandu team is available around the clock while you travel.
Because the tour is fully private, it is also completely flexible. You choose your travel dates and hotel category, from comfortable 3-star stays to 5-star luxury, and we can shorten or extend the trip, add a family trek, a visit to Lumbini or an Everest mountain flight, or plan it around a birthday or festival. Whether it is your children's first trip to Asia or a reunion of three generations, the Nepal Family Tour Package by Actual Adventure gives you a safe, enriching and joyful way to discover Nepal together.
Safety measures: First-aid kit carried on every trip · guides trained in first aid · bottled or filtered water provided in the vehicle · hotels chosen for clean rooms and safe surroundings · emergency contacts shared before arrival

Day 1: Our representative meets your family at Tribhuvan International Airport with a warm Nepali welcome and transfers you to your hotel. After time to rest, your guide holds a short trip briefing, and you enjoy a welcome dinner featuring dal bhat and momos, two Nepali favourites most children love.
Day 2: After breakfast, climb up to Swayambhunath, where playful monkeys and prayer flags greet you along with a sweeping view of the city. Continue to Kathmandu Durbar Square to see the palace courtyards and the home of the Kumari, Nepal's living goddess. In the afternoon, walk around Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world, and spin the prayer wheels with local pilgrims. Optional: a visit to Pashupatinath Temple (parents may wish to skip the cremation ghats with younger children).
Day 3: Drive to Bhaktapur, a car-free medieval city of brick lanes and pagoda temples. Children can try the potter's wheel in Pottery Square and taste juju dhau, the city's famous "king of yogurts". In the afternoon, continue up to Nagarkot for a peaceful evening with sunset views over the Himalayas.
Day 4: Wake early for sunrise over the Himalayan range. After breakfast, drive towards Chitwan, stopping at Kurintar for the cable car ride up to Manakamana Temple. Continue to Sauraha on the edge of Chitwan National Park, arriving in the late afternoon. This is the longest travel day (about 6–7 hours including stops), so we build in regular breaks.
Day 5: Start with a dugout canoe ride on the Rapti River, looking for crocodiles and kingfishers. Visit the elephant breeding centre, where baby elephants are a highlight for children. In the afternoon, head into the park on a jeep safari to look for one-horned rhinos, spotted deer, monkeys and, with luck, a sloth bear or tiger. Evening Tharu cultural dance show in the village.
Day 6: Optional early bird-watching walk or a short cycle through a Tharu village. After breakfast, drive to Pokhara (about 5 hours) along the river valleys. Relax in the evening with a stroll along the Phewa Lake shore.
Day 7: Row a colourful boat across Phewa Lake to Tal Barahi Temple on its island. Visit Davis Falls, where the water disappears underground, and explore the stone passages of Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave across the road. In the afternoon, the International Mountain Museum brings the story of the Himalayas and its climbers to life.
Day 8: Optional early drive to Sarangkot for sunrise over the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). Later, take a short hike or drive up to the World Peace Pagoda for panoramic views of the lake and mountains, then boat back across the lake. Afternoon free for optional activities such as tandem paragliding (for older children and adults) or the zipline.
Day 9: Take a 25-minute scenic flight back to Kathmandu, with mountain views from the right side of the plane. Afternoon free to shop in Thamel for souvenirs. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with a live Nepali cultural performance.
Day 10: After breakfast, free time until your transfer to the airport for your onward flight. Our team will see you off and help with check-in. Note: The itinerary may change slightly due to weather, road conditions, flight schedules or your family's needs. Our guide always puts your comfort and safety first.
Make it your own: Shorten the trip to 7 or 8 days, extend with a trek or Lumbini, upgrade hotels, or plan the dates around a birthday or a festival such as Dashain, Tihar or Holi. Tell us your children's ages and interests and we'll tailor the plan.
Visa: Most nationalities can get a tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport or pre-register online. Fees are USD 30 (15 days), USD 50 (30 days) and USD 125 (90 days); children under 10 are generally free (US-citizen children may be charged, so please check). For this 10-day tour, the 15-day visa is enough. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months.
